Network Drives: accessing drives in MacOS

Connecting to a network drive on a Mac.

Body

In order to connect to a network drive from an Apple (Mac) Operating System (El Capitan, Mojave, Catalina) follow the directions listed below:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Click "Go" from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Select "Connect to Server..."
  4. Enter the file path you are trying to connect to: beginning with smb://  (note all slashes must be forward NOT back) i.e smb://<<SERVER_NAME>>/<<SHARE_NAME>>. Example => smb://server1/shareddrive1$ 
  5. Once you have typed the correct file path, click connect.
  6. If you have successfully connected the drive will appear with all the files.
